I am impressed with the achievements South Africa has made since the end of apartheid, and I have a deep admiration for them. I have a lot of respect for some anti-apartheid heroes, like Solomon Kalushi Mahlangu, Steve Biko, Robert Sobukwe, and Joseph Phillip Mlambo. Steve Biko’s significant contribution to resisting the apartheid regime was something I was aware of during my youth. If he were alive today, he probably wouldn’t be happy with the outcome of the South African elections. If there is a lesson to be gained from the South African election, it is that South Africans have been deceived into returning the country to the dark days of apartheid.

The outcome of the South African election, which will usher in a coalition between the ANC and the DA, along with the smaller Inkatha Freedom Party, is a shame and shows that Apartheid never ended, but was in a 30-year hibernation. In fact, the true winners of the 2024 South African elections are the Europeans, who have employed a sophisticated neocolonialism approach and aggressive campaigns to regain control of one of Africa’s largest economies. It is disheartening to see how the ANC’s failures over the years led most black South Africans to vote for the Democratic Alliance, which was once known as the National Party, a party that once supported apartheid.

For those who are too young to recall or have lost touch with reality, the Democratic Alliance was previously referred to as the National Party. After winning the 1948 general election, the National party implemented a policy of apartheid. These policies were a legal framework of racial, economic, and social segregation designed to maintain the White minority’s dominance over South Africa. Today, a significant portion of the remaining remnants of the National Party are involved in the Democratic Alliance and are card-carrying members.

How the DA was able to finish second in the recently concluded elections is still a mystery to many political enthusiasts. It is a disgrace to think that some black South Africans actually voted for the DA instead of any other black led political party. Unfortunately, a significant number of them, who are either born-free or of an older generation, are not aware of the history of the DA. The 2024 elections in South Africa have confirmed what some of the most racist leaders of apartheid thought about black South Africans. Peter William Botha, a hard-core racist, stated in 1995 that:

Most whites do not pretend that they like black people. Like other white people, the fact that blacks look like human beings and act like human beings does not necessarily make them sensible human beings. A hedgehog is not like a porcupine and lizards are not like crocodiles simply because they look alike.

If God wanted us to be equal to blacks he would have created us all a uniform color and intellect, but he created us differently whites, blacks, yellow, the rulers and the ruled. Indirect, we are superior to the blacks, and that has been proved beyond any reasonable doubt over the years.

PW BOTHA 1985

When looking at the election results, everyone thought that the African National Congress would keep its majority vote, but this didn’t happen because of their years of misrule. However, since that was not the case, the African National Congress was expected to form a coalition with other parties like the MK Party (uMkhonto weSizwe) and the EFF. This would have enabled them to have at least achieved the 64% threshold and become the majority.

Unfortunately, this didn’t happen. Instead, the African National Congress and the IFP (Inkatha Freedom Party) went into Cahoots with the Democratic Alliance to establish a coalition government to rule South Africa. If South Africans expect that the DA, of which the majority of its members continue to express racist views about black people, will suddenly change its stance towards black people, then it is clear that many are yet to learn from their past.

If you think that just because the DA made progress in the Western Cape, they will do the same in South Africa at large, then be prepared to be disappointed. The DA’s success in Cape Town was to cater to the large population of white people, not the black or coloured ones. This is why some of the nicest parts of Cape Town are populated by white South Africans or Europeans.

Remember that there are still elements of the DA calling for Cape Town to become an independent country. It’s well-known that many white South Africans want their own independent state. This explains why Julius Malema was not a popular choice among many voters, since he is a pan-Africanist who advocates for an integrated Africa for Africans rather than a segregated one.

Julius Malema has never said that he will let every African come to South Africa. I believe what Malema meant was that, in the spirit of pan-Africanism, the integration of Africans by accessing their markets would introduce a thriving African continent. If there is any political party that is more likely to introduce an open border, then it is the DA. How can we be certain that the DA will not open its borders to other Europeans if they acquire control of the government? If you’ve been to Cape Town, you’ll notice a significant influx of Europeans from other countries. The only difference between what Malema wants and what the DA will likely do is that more Europeans will come to South Africa instead of Africans.

This is where I am confused. Do black South Africans not desire the presence of all foreigners in their country, particularly African foreigners? Which foreigners do they not want to come to South Africa? It’s unfortunate that Black South Africans continue to make the same mistake of assuming that those, who once didn’t consider you equal, actually care about you.

This is the reason apartheid was so successful in South Africa, as the slave master was capable of slicing your toes, and you would still be in love with him ten years down the road. Even Hendrik Verwoerd, who was one of the architects and founders of Apartheid in South Africa, is credited with this statement:

You can beat a Bantu today, and he will smile at you tomorrow. Bantu’s are like monkeys. No matter how you mistreat them, they will always beg to serve you. We must not be afraid to give Bantu the right to vote, they would use that vote to vote for the white man because Bantu, much like a dog, cannot exist without a master. They need the white man to tell them what to do.

Hendrik Verwoerd

Although I disagree with Hendrik’s statement about the Bantu, I am concerned that his statements are becoming a reality.  To achieve self-actualization, one needs to be free. This is the reason I am convinced that the majority of African nations that have achieved independence are not truly free. The idea that South Africa became independent in 1994 is just a myth. I say this because a country that still has its colonial name and is controlled by one group of wealthy white people can’t be free.  The majority of these extremely wealthy, elite families continue to prosper in a predominantly black country, despite the high unemployment rate.

The ANC’s decision to reach an agreement with the DA to establish the nation’s first coalition government since the end of apartheid 30 years ago suggests that the nation is gradually transitioning into the era of controlled Apartheid. The DA knows what it wants to accomplish, and it does not concern the welfare of black South Africans. It is not surprising, therefore, that the DA are simply following the Hendrik Verwoerd school of thought about Bantu. This is why they are free to burn the South African flag however they wish, since they are not concerned with the country, but only with their people.

Jacob Zuma was removed from office due to his refusal to dance to their tune. Jacob Zuma demanded that the ANC and the EFF work together to change the constitution on land issues. This decision was not liked by many white people, especially since they learned from the Zimbabwe scenario. This is why they conducted a propaganda campaign in which they asserted that Zuma was the primary adversary and required removal.

My Take

There will be only one winner in the South African elections of 2024, and that is the DA and their western allies. The alliance between the ANC and the DA is sure to steer South Africa away from the path of the BRICS countries and toward Europe and the United States. Since African countries, especially in West Africa, are refusing to cooperate with the United States and France, South Africa is the only way for these western powers to take back control.

The foreign policy and position on Israel will change if the ANC-DA alliance succeeds. The coalition between the ANC, the EFF, and MK would have caused great fear among many Western media players and markets. This is why white-owned propaganda is making the rounds in the media, claiming that an alliance between the ANC, EFF, and MK would be a catalyst for corruption and a diminishment of the rule of law.  It is not a case of corruption, but of white supremacy.

If the ANC and EFF had collaborated, it would have strengthened Africa’s economic and cultural strength. It would also have provided a more effective and durable resolution to the issue of African migrants and other related concerns. The agendas of both Jacob Zuma and Julius Malema reveal two men whose goal isn’t to attain power for personal reasons, but rather to liberate their people from white supremacy in South Africa. Jacob Zuma’s triumph in the parliament demonstrates this, and he had the backing of his people.

The DA isn’t concerned about black South Africans’ interests. As a leopard cannot change its spots quickly, the DA’s plans will not change because they only want what is best for their people and western allies. It will be interesting to see what will happen in the coming days as the plan to transition to a government of national unity takes shape. One thing I can assure you of is that the DA will not make it easy for the Cyril Ramaphosa led ANC government. It is unimaginable to think that those who never saw you as their equal may suddenly change their attitudes and wish you well.
